CU’s Fund-raising Record Shattered
June 6, 2007
The University of Colorado today announced that the $125 million it raised in fiscal year
2007 shattered by more than $32 million the record for the best fund-raising year in the
institution’s 131-year history.
The best fund-raising year was 2000, when CU donors provided $93 million in support of
its campuses.
The university’s fund-raising total comprises gifts to the University of Colorado
Foundation (accounting for some three-quarters of the total, including alumni giving and
major gifts), to the CU Real Estate Foundation and directly to the university.
“Setting this record shows the renewed confidence our donors and alumni have in CU’s
world-class faculty, researchers and educational experience,” said CU President Hank
Brown. “The individuals, foundations and corporations who are investing in CU students
and faculty are also investing in the future of our state and nation.”
The $93 million raised by the Foundation to date (the fiscal year ends June 30) is a 76
percent increase over fiscal year 2006. Of that, the number of total donors is up 12
percent (to 40,707) and the number of alumni donors is up 19 percent (to 20,420).
“The success we’re seeing in every facet of our fund-raising operation reflects the trust
our donors have in the leadership of the university and their belief that the money they
give will make a real difference for our faculty and students,” said CU Foundation
President/CEO Wayne Hutchens.
