Mary and Jerry Kern, individually and together, exemplify the spirit of philanthropy. The Piton Foundation provides opportunities for children and their families to move from poverty and dependence to self-reliance. Its vision is a better future for the low-income children of Denver. Through a partnership with the School of Public Affairs, Piton has been able to define its major strategic initiative. The Children’s Corridor seeks to ensure that 39,000 at-risk children in some of the most underserved neighborhoods in Denver and Aurora are ready for kindergarten, have a medical home, and, graduate from high school prepared for college and career.
