Entry level professional, with minimum of 1 – 3 years fundraising, sales, or public relations experience. Including frequent travel, this position focuses on identification of prospects that can lead to gifts in the $25K – $75K category. As an engagement position, prospects identified are redirected for management and solicitation by CUF departmental liaisons (officers). This position will also have one unit assignment involving annual and major gift fundraising.
- Works to cultivate existing, larger annual fund and greater donor relationships with the intent of sustaining and increasing the relationship with the donor.
- Portfolio Management: Manages portfolio consisting of a minimum of 20 prospects. Goals relating to number of personal contacts, and number of proposed, gifts, grants, and prospect identification to be set with and approved by management. Following prospect qualification, this role will redirect prospects to DoDs in A & S and Graduate School academic units. Goals for number of planned giving donations to be established with supervisor.
- Develops and manages portfolios of individual prospects in assigned unit that are capable of making significant gifts to secure major gift commitments in the $25 – $75K category. Plans and implements programs that include measurable targets for each fiscal year (e.g., mailings and campaigns, stewardship activities, solicitations).
- Works closely with University of Colorado (CU) faculty and volunteers and CU staff to develop and implement fundraising strategies to meet established goals and objectives. Facilitates productive relationships daily between donors and CU administrators, faculty and staff to ensure effectiveness of programs.
- Works daily to ensure timely, accurate completion of annual and leadership giving campaigns, projects, and pledges. Documents prospect strategies and contact reports, provides unit reports, evaluates new prospects and generates stewardship reports and general correspondence daily to cultivate major gift prospects and build Page unit prospect pipeline.
- Represents the CU Foundation at University events to support the University and cultivate donors.
- This assistant Director position works closely with 10 development officers to aid in the discovery and engagement of new prospects from our 2 prospect groups in the College of Arts & Sciences and Graduate School (170,000+ total). This includes identifying and cultivating alumni and friends toward making annual, major and leadership gifts to support undergraduate and graduate education and other related programs. Frequent state and national travel is required. This role will also have a fundraising goal and academic or institute unit assignment to implement and execute annual and major gift fundraising actions.
- Conduct qualifying visits and execute events within Colorado and nationally to identify and engage alumni, friends and donors for the CU Boulder College of Arts & Sciences and Graduate School programs.
- Regular internal communication and coordination regarding prospect status are essential job responsibilities.
- Provide direct service to an assigned department regarding their annual and major fundraising program in conjunction with a comprehensive campaign. State and national travel for prospect engagement and one unit major gift and annual fundraising support are primary duties.
- Solid knowledge of fundraising techniques.
- Solid ability to communicate verbally and in writing, and develop and maintain interpersonal relationships
- Solid ability to analyze information / situations and solve problems
- Solid ability to handle sensitive information discretely and maintain confidentiality
- Solid ability to organize and manage multiple projects/tasks simultaneously; must have ability to work independently and collaboratively, and adapt to changing priorities
- Solid knowledge of current issues facing public universities and interests of assigned school, students, faculty, and alumni.
- Solid ability to recruit and manage activities of volunteer staff
- Solid ability to cultivate and solicit donations from individuals at leadership gift level.
- Personal computer proficiency required, especially as related to the software referenced under “software utilized” (see below). Computer skills may be subject to testing/verification.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 1 -3 years of fundraising, sales, or public relations experience required.
- Microsoft Office Products; MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; donor tracking software (BSR helpful)
- Shared administrative support will be provided. May also direct activities of volunteers and student employees.
