Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations – College of Engineering and Applied Science

Coordinates, directs and implement efforts to attract and retain foundation and corporate support for a particular school or college for the University of Colorado Foundation. Coordinates gifts, grants, and other forms of support from local and national foundations and corporations for particular school or college. (Usually 5-7 years fundraising experience: significant gifts of $100K-$1M).

Essential Duties
  • Identifies, engages and solicits select regional and national corporations to support particular school or college programs, tailoring approach and efforts as necessary to achieve desired fundraising results.
  • Identifies, engages and solicits select private and corporate foundations to support particular school or college programs, ensuring compliance with foundation solicitation requirements (e.g., proof of non-profit status, completing proposal, etc.)
  • Provides service and stewardship to corporations and foundations to establish long-term relationships, ensure satisfaction and foster future private support.
  • Work closely with CU faculty at college to develop and implement fundraising strategies including prospect identification, solicitation, negotiation, and stewardship of corporate and foundation donors.
  • Works daily to ensure timely, accurate completion of proposals, pledges and fund agreements. Documents prospect strategies and contact reports, evaluates new prospects and generates stewardship reports and general correspondence daily to cultivate major prospects.
  • Represents the CU Foundation at University events in order to support the University and cultivate donors.
  • Coordinates corporate and foundation contacts (visits, outreach, etc.) with the Office of the Associate Dean for Research with requests specific to research.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Expert knowledge of fundraising techniques. Solid knowledge of business climate and issues, and giving climate for private foundations.
  • Solid knowledge in grant writing. Solid knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and professional standards governing foundation and corporate grant-making.
  • Expert ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Solid ability to analyze information/situations and solve problems.
  • Solid ability to handle sensitive information discretely and maintain confidentiality.
  • Solid ability to organize and manage multiple projects/tasks simultaneously; must have ability to work independently and collaboratively, and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Solid knowledge of current issues facing public universities and interests/projects of assigned school, students, faculty, and alumni.
  • Personal computer proficiency required, especially as related to the software referenced under software utilized. Computer skills may be subject to testing/verification.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years experience in higher education fundraising/non-profit management required, proven success in an area related to foundation and corporate relations.
