Wayne Hutchens

Wayne Hutchens has been appointed president and CEO of the CU Foundation, effective April 1, 2006. Prior to this position, Hutchens had a 29-year career in the banking industry, most recently as chairman of Chase Bank Colorado, where he oversaw two successful mergers. He is a 1967 graduate of the University of Colorado at Boulder’s School of Business and has done graduate study at Syracuse University and the University of Colorado. He is a graduate of the Stonier Graduate School of Banking.

He began his professional career in 1969 as treasurer at the CU Foundation before embarking on his banking career in 1977. He has long been active in community service and serves as a Chairman of the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, is on the Board of Directors of the Metro Denver Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Colorado Forum. He has served as the Chairman of the Colorado Council on Economic Education, Chairman of the Colorado Outward Bound School, a board member of the Boulder Community Hospital, board member of the Samaritan Institute and served a four-year term on the City Council for the City of Boulder. He is an elder in the Presbyterian Church.

An avid climber, Wayne is a member of the Colorado Mountain Club and the American Alpine Club. He has scaled all 54 Fourteeners in Colorado and numerous other peaks around the world, including Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa and Mt. Elbrus in Russia. He and his wife Joyce, also a CU graduate, have been married for 38 years and have two sons, both CU graduates.
