Our Responsibility to You:
Commitment to Openness and Privacy
The Foundation is committed to upholding and preserving public and private trust, while at the same time protecting the privacy of donors and employees, and the confidentiality of its operational strategies. We are responsible to our constituencies: to our donors; to our Board (who serve without remuneration and at their own expense); to our volunteers; to the University of Colorado and its leadership, faculty, staff, and students; and to our CU Foundation staff.
One of the ways in which we are accountable is to make accessible materials that we believe should be available to those who care about the mission and success of the CU Foundation. The following items are a sample of what is available on our website or by calling our office:
- Financial audit conducted annually by our external auditor
- Annual report of giving and activities
- Summaries of investment activities
- Roster of board members
- IRS Form 990
The CU Foundation’s status as a distinct operation, separate and apart from the University of Colorado, achieves the following: Confidentiality Provides donors assurance of confidentiality as to records of their personal contributions, financial matters, trust agreements, wills and estate plans. Control Ensures donor gifts will not be redirected by the state legislature for uses other than what the donor intended. Investment Benefits Allows the Foundation to manage private funds to maximize returns on investments and thus, optimize transfers to the University. |
