The University of Colorado Foundation was established in 1967 to raise and manage private funds on behalf of the University of Colorado. The Foundation has responsibility for receiving, managing, and stewarding private gifts for the benefit of CU, as well as maintaining the alumni/donor database and performing other functions that strengthen relationships between the University, its alumni, donors, friends and the greater community it serves. The Foundation's staff of more than 140 is housed in its main office in Boulder, as well as in on-site offices on each of the University's campuses.

The University of Colorado system is composed of four unique campuses, each of which has a distinct and important role in higher education in Colorado. Together they comprise the largest institution of higher education in the state and one of the most distinguished public institutions of higher education in the United States. The university system includes the 700-acre flagship campus at Boulder, the 400-acre campus in Colorado Springs, the urban campus at Auraria in downtown Denver and the Health Sciences Center in Denver and Aurora.
