Rod and Sally Lorimer: Lending a Helping Hand

In their final year at CU-Boulder, Rodric and Sally Lorimer had a lot on their plates. They had just been married, they were working to put themselves through college, and they were balancing the rigors of their challenging academic curriculums.

As close as they were to the finish line, Rod began to wonder if he’d be able to graduate on time. In his last semester, Rod received a scholarship that made all the difference.

By lifting some of the financial strain, the scholarship enabled him to graduate with the class of ’60 with a dual degree in mechanical engineering and business.

“Knowing that someone was there to help me see it through allowed me to complete my education,” said Rod. “I wanted to give that back.”

Following Rod’s successful career at Proctor & Gamble and Clorox, the Lorimers opted to establish a charitable remainder trust using their Clorox stock holdings. The gift provides the Lorimers with an income throughout their lives, after which it will provide a permanent, endowed scholarship to engineering students at CU-Boulder.

Although Rod and Sally now live in California, their connection to Boulder is steadfast. “My CU education laid the foundation for my professional career,” noted Rod. “Sally and I hope this scholarship will pave the way for success among future CU engineering students who need a helping hand.”
