Fred Gluck and Andrea Rhodes: CU Parents with a Mission
Meet Fred Gluck (ApMath ’67) and Andrea Rhodes, who have made giving back to CU a priority. As CU Parents Association board members, donors, and volunteers, their support for the university will make it a better place for their daughter Larissa (a CU senior) and countless students who will matriculate at CU-Boulder.
Fred and Andrea joined the CU Parents Association (CUPA) Board of Directors and quickly became involved in many aspects of the board including the Diversity Committee and the CU Parent Fund Committee. This summer, Fred and Andrea will host Summer Send-Offs for new Boulder-area students attending the university.
“We believe the University of Colorado is the premier higher educational institution in the West,” said Fred and Andrea. “It combines an excellent academic and research programs with a wonderful environment for students to grow and flourish. For the Boulder and Colorado community, CU-Boulder provides a rich set of opportunities including renowned academic speakers, arts, and athletic programs.”
Fred’s CU ties run deep. He graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Applied Mathematics in 1967 and is currently an instructor in the Science Discovery Program at CU-Boulder. Andrea devotes time to local nonprofit Boulder Attention Homes, where she prepares menus, cooks meals, and spends time with children.
Regular donors to the CU Parent Fund, Fred and Andrea reach out to other parents and encourage them to support the university. They went above and beyond their regular support to create the Gluck Rhodes CU Marching Band Scholarship Endowment in the College of Music, which annually will generate scholarships for junior or senior CU Marching Band participants.
“As CU faces decreased state funding and difficult economic times, the need for private giving is even more urgent. Giving to CU is a great way to support our students and our community,” they said.
The University of Colorado at Boulder is a success in part because of parents like Fred and Andrea. We are grateful to all parents who give to the CU Parent Fund, which supports student success from move-in through graduation, and sustains programs that directly impact the student experience.
