After five years of internal management of its investment portfolio—which includes the University of Colorado endowment—the University of Colorado Foundation is outsourcing these services to Perella Weinberg Partners (PWP), an asset management firm based in New York.

Kate Horwitz, PhD, a breast cancer researcher at the University of Colorado Cancer Center and distinguished professor of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Diabetes at the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine, has received $650,000 from the Avon Foundation for Women in support of various breast cancer outreach and research programs.

Louise Bennett Reed, who passed away at age 103 last June, gave gifts totaling more than $4.75 million for University of Colorado at Boulder athletic scholarships, making her the largest individual donor to the CU-Boulder Athletics department.

The company’s $1 million gift is a lead gift toward the initial renovations of the new Business School building at 1475 Lawrence St. in downtown Denver, and the school plans to honor EnCana’s generosity through the naming of the Global Energy Management suite where the GEM program will be located in the new facility.

The Foundation is giving the Colorado School of Public Health more than $2 million to expand programs and recruit top faculty.

Scientists at the University of Colorado at Boulder may get a step closer to identifying all proteins present in a single cell type, thanks to a $1.2 million grant from the W.M. Keck Foundation. The grant could better enable researchers to understand the complex changes within a cell that are triggered by disease, food or other means — which could accelerate the development of targeted therapies for cancer, heart disease and other diseases.

The arm of public health in Colorado now is able to improve its reach in our state thanks to a generous grant from Kaiser Permanente Colorado. The state’s largest nonprofit health plan has given $600,000 to the Colorado School of Public Health to support the development of The Center for Public Health Practice (CPHP).
